Former ENACAR Teatro, Lota, Chile

Emblematic reinforced concrete building with Art Deco influences, designed by the architect Eduardo Knokaert and dating from 1953. The theatre is in the mining town of Lota and is part of the Typical or Picturesque Zone of the Lota Alto Sector, an area representative of the boom of the coal mining industry in Chile, declared by the Board of National Monuments in 2014. Kalam is completing the comprehensive recovery of the property, making repairs and structural reinforcements with carbon fibre in the reinforced concrete elements, which were badly deteriorated due to the lack of maintenance. It is worth noting the restoration of the native wood doors and the reinstallation of theatre seats inside the premises, to recover its original use. A lighting design which will highlight the geometrical lines of the facade, completes the enhancement of the property.
