León de Oro Inn in Cava Baja 12, Madrid, Spain

A comprehensive intervention was executed to gut renovate this Nineteenth Century inn, in the historic center of Madrid, which included structural reinforcement and archaeological consolidation of a Twelfth Century Christian wall (built as an extension of the remains of a Ninth Century wall of Moorish origin). The renovation included: replacing the roof; stucco coating of the main facade and replacing the woodwork and ironwork; reconstructing the original vaulted terra cotta pipes; installing two elevators; renovating the flooring; restoring the stairway and providing new lighting fixtures, radiators and radiant floor heating, air conditioning, solar panels, fire protection systems and telecommunications.
