Main access to the Cerro de Santa Lucía, Santiago, Chile

The intervention in this emblematic hill in the heart of the city, where Pedro de Valdivia founded Santiago de la Nueva Extremadura in 1541, has consisted in the recovery of the main facade of the monumental entrance and the Plaza de Neptuno Baja, corresponding to the south west sector of Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins Avenue. These monumental buildings were erected at the beginning of the Twentieth Century as part of a large urban planning improvement project, coinciding with the First Centenary of the Republic. In summary, the work has involved repair and replacement of the damaged balusters by casting, crack sealing and repair of interior and exterior walls; and restoration of all pre-cast mortar elements that form edges, cornices, ornaments, pilasters, plinths and other decorative elements. And a final application of sealer and paint coatings according to color codes approved by the Council of National Monuments.
