Museum of Fine Arts, Santiago, Chile

The National Museum of Fine arts was declared a National Monument on December 30, 1976. Its close location to the city’s main traffic lanes and the high degree of contamination and embedded dirt, as well as previous repairs that were not very respectful of the original design and other aging factors; greatly determined the preservation of the facades of the monument. The set of operations necessary to recover its splendor, without hiding the trace of time, included: efflorescence removal and replacement of mortars on the base, sealing cracks and addressing water filtration, repair and replacement of ornamental elements, surface cleaning and elimination of heavy soiling, replacement of downspouts and chromatic harmonization of historical facades.
