Bank of Spain, Madrid, Spain

After more than ten years since our first intervention in the Bank of Spain Building, catalogued as an Asset of Cultural Interest, the property once again entrusted KALAM with the restoration of the 12,000 m2 of its façade made of Alpedrete granite, Alconera limestone and Carrara marble, corresponding to the Main Building and the 1975 Extension Building. The restoration projected by Valentín Berriochoa includes the fixing by means of stainless steel rods and epoxy resins of cornices and stone modillions, eliminating the oxidized gauges that have caused the fracture of the large ashlars, the micro-stitching and sealing of cracks, the grouting of ashlars and the restitution of volumes with epoxy mortars, the elimination of efflorescence, preconsolidation and application of patinas and anti-graffiti treatments on the facade walls, as well as the installation of zinc in the Belgian joint system on cornices. The wrought iron elements of the lower floors, ironwork in the English courtyard, façade lanterns and zinc roof cresting will also be restored.
