CaixaForum Headquarters, Madrid, Spain

For this high-profile refurbishment, the Madrid center of the La Caixa Foundation, designed by the Swiss Herzog & de Meuron practice (of architects distinguished with the Pritzker prize), we restored the brick facades, which evoke the building’s former industrial life as the Mediodía power station. They were cleaned, consolidated, protected, filled as necessary, repointed, and patinated, among other tasks, and new facade walls where initially non-existent were erected, along with work on moldings and a painstaking restoration of cornices. Worth noting is the whole process of making molds for producing bricks of the same sizes as the originals.
