Canalejas Complex, Madrid, Spain

Restoration of the more than 7,000 m² of facade of the Canalejas Complex, site of Madrid’s Four Seasons Hotel, including its landmark facade at Calle Alcalá 14, an exemplar of 19th-century eclectic monumental architecture on which our team had worked previously. This work involved dry cleaning of facades by abrasive blasting. Stonework was restored by means of reconstructing cornices, belt courses, balustrades, and decorative items, of both natural and artificial stone. The restored wall surfaces were also coated with a color-harmonizing patina and water-repellent sealing. Ornamental metalwork was restored along with the ensemble’s exterior ornaments, with globe lamps and zinc pinnacles. Finally we also restored the gilt copper sculptures crowning the complex.
