Cortegana Castle, Spain

Work to reconstruct and restore the outer walls on the north slope and to lay paving outside this late 13th-century castle, designated a monumental cultural heritage asset. The works, commissioned by Cortegana town council, involved restoring and filling in the stonemasonry as appropriate and forming stone steps where stairs were lacking or damaged. Coating work was also performed, with pointing of stonemasonry and cleaning and restoration of wall renders and plasters. Stone paving with handrails was installed along the walls to allow visitors to get about the site safely.
