Metropolis Building, Madrid, Spain

The well-known Metrópolis building is regarded as the first construction to have emerged in the development of Madrid’s Gran Vía in the early 20th century, with the whole decorative repertoire of the prestigious French École des Beaux-Arts. It was designed in 1907 by the French architects Jules and Raymond Février and built under the direction of the Spaniard Luis Esteve, where Calle Alcalá meets Gran Vía. We performed a holistic restoration on this Madrid landmark which we have been conserving since 1996, and most notably of its magnificent facade, with the refurbishment of sculptural ensembles by Mariano Benlliure, the Winged Victory by Federico Coullaut Valera, and the spectacular dome, to which we applied 40,000 gold leafs.
