Press Palace, Gran Vía 46, Madrid, Spain

We intervened in this iconic building by the architect Pedro Muguruza located on Madrid’s emblematic Gran Vía, being the first building to use exposed brick, forming one of the recognisable landmarks of the surroundings of the Plaza de Callao. The work consisted of the restoration of more than 9,200 m2 of exterior façade, patios, parapets, ornaments and balustrades. The surfaces were cleaned to discover the real state of the support, the replacement of deteriorated bricks, the grouting of the brick walls, the application of successive layers of glazing based on lime hydroxide with loads of natural pigments as chromatic intonation, the consolidation of the plaster walls using consolidants based on pure potassium silicate and natural lime with natural earth and minerals and the reconstruction of those ornaments that were at risk of detachment, in many cases requiring the execution of moulds in situ for their reconstruction and the recovery of volumes with terraces and anchoring to the substrate.
