Santiago Church, Sigüenza, Spain

On the high street of the medieval city of Sigüenza we find the portal of this ancient church built in the late 12th century for Bishop Martín de Finojosa. It consists of a flared arch, with a relief of Saint James in the tympanum and a triangular pediment above. The interior has a single six-section space with a choirstall at the west end. The restoration of the church commissioned by the government of Castilla-La Mancha involved extensive masonry work allowing us to restore the stability of the facade along with the Renaissance choirstall, and a restoration of the Romanesque portal, whose reliefs are among the most outstanding of this style in Guadalajara province.
