The restoration of this major work of medieval architecture built under Alfonso X the Wise was commissioned by the Caja Madrid Foundation. It involved an archaeological excavation of the site along with perimeter drainage and paving to keep the stone from being damaged by damp. Salts were removed from the walls, joints were restored with traditional lime mortars, and the walls and stonework were reconstructed and filled in and coated with color patinas matching the original coloring. Worth noting is the restoration of mural paintings discovered during the work by our specialist technicians.
