Tudela Cathedral, Spain

A sensitive conservation project on the cathedral cloister stonework. This Romanesque gem suffers from a stone pathology requiring rigorous analysis and specific measures suited to the initial state of each element. With this criterion, three sets of procedures were deployed: clearing and removal of previous layers, sticking of fragments and sealing of cracks, and finally, application of provisional protection and adoption of preventive conservation measures. Cleaning was done as appropriate with pulse lasers, pumice particle blasting, or mechanical devices such as ultrasonic spatulas or scalpels.
