Tudela Cathedral, Spain

Delicate work of preserving the stone elements of the cloister of the Cathedral of Saint Mary of Tudela. This Romanesque jewel suffers from a pathology of the stone that requires a rigorous analysis and a specific and appropriate intervention depending on the state of deterioration of each element. Under this criterion, different procedures were used, grouped in three phases: cleaning and removal of previous layers, reattachment of fragments and filling of cracks, and finally, the installation of provisional protections and the adoption of preventive conservation measures. Different cleaning systems were used, depending on each case, such as a laser light system, micro-projection of pumice powder, or mechanical means like ultrasonic spatulas and scalpels were used.
