Europa Nostra 2018 Award in the Conservation Category for the Restoration of the Main Faç …

The latest edition of the European Union Cultural Heritage Awards, granted by the European Commission and Europa Nostra, has awarded three projects in Spain. In the Conservation Category, the award was granted to the restoration of the façade of the San Ildefonso School in Alcalá de Henares, executed by Kalam. This façade was built in the sixteenth century and, according to the organizers, “the award-winning project has managed to appease the effects of climate and aging to reduce the impact of its degradation, repairing damage and restoring it to its former splendour”.

The jury especially valued the high historical value of this ornate façade, one of the best known works of Rodrigo Gil he Hontañón, and its excellent conservation, paying special attention to the preservation of its historic patina. Kalam’s team of experienced professionals deserves our sincerest recognition for making this work worthy of the award, the most important in the world of cultural heritage.

The other two Spanish projects awarded this year have been the restoration of the “Visión de España” Sorolla sketches, also in the Conservation category, and the inheritance of the Argual and Tazacorte Haciendas of La Palma, in the Category of Service and Dedication to Heritage.

KALAM would like to congratulate all the winners in this new edition of these awards that reward exemplary achievements in the categories of conservation, research, special dedication to heritage, education, training and awareness.
