Atocha 40, Madrid, Spain

Holistic rehabilitation of the building at the intersection of Calle Atocha 40 and Calle Magdalena 27 so as to adapt it for high-end housing and to improve its accessibility. A first phase of work involved demolition, gutting of the interior, structural reinforcement of beams and uprights, and replacement of timber-framed walls and wooden floors in the property at Calle Magdalena 27, continuing with Calle Atocha 40. Traditional techniques and craftwork were employed for wooden structures, preserving and restoring characteristic elements such as the facades and protected premises of the textile store on Calle Atocha or the building’s imperial staircase.
